Los tranvías hipomóviles en Donostia 1887 - 1897. Aspectos Veterinarios

Abstract

The authors take a look at the history of the tramway, from the original
animal-drawn trams, or hippomobiles, to the foundation of the Compañía del
Tranvía de San Sebastián in 1886.
They describe the development of public city transport in San Sebastián over the ten
years (1887-1897) during which horse-drawn traction was in use, analysing the types and
breeds most often utilized, feeding practices, health and hygiene and performance.
A rough description is provided of the veterinary in charge of seeing to the health
of these animals.
